FBO CUSTOMS

FBO Customs
by Airport.

Who handles your customs coordination at every common Bahamas, TCI, and South Florida private field, plus on-field vs off-field procedures and after-hours notes.

At a Glance

  • Every private arrival is handled by an FBO
  • FBO does not stamp passports — customs officers do that
  • FBO files GenDec, coordinates ramp, processes fees
  • Some airports: customs comes to the FBO
  • Other airports: pax walk to a customs building
  • After hours: overtime coordinated by FBO

Every private jet arrival touches an FBO (Fixed Base Operator). The FBO is the private terminal — the ground handler that meets your aircraft, coordinates customs, files paperwork, and invoices the operator. Different airports have very different FBO landscapes, and the flow of customs clearance varies accordingly. This page maps the main Bahamas, TCI, and South Florida fields.

Bahamas FBOs

Nassau (MYNN) — Odyssey Aviation & Jet Aviation Nassau

MYNN has two primary private terminals. Odyssey Aviation runs the long-established private side with a full customs room; customs and immigration come to the FBO on arrival. Jet Aviation Nassau operates a newer private terminal with similar on-site customs flow. Customs hours: 24 hours at MYNN.

Freeport (MYGF) — Freeport Flight Services

Freeport’s private side is modest but efficient. Customs and immigration are in the main terminal area. 24 hour customs coverage.

Marsh Harbour (MYAM) — Cherokee Aviation / local handler

Marsh Harbour has a small but capable private handling operation. Customs is adjacent to the private ramp. Hours: 09:00 to 17:00, overtime by arrangement.

Treasure Cay (MYAT) — Treasure Cay Airport handler

Limited private handling; customs at the main terminal. Hours: 09:00 to 17:00.

Exuma (MYEF) — Exuma Air Center

Exuma’s private ramp has a dedicated customs building steps from the FBO. Seasonal staffing — peak winter has full hours, summer leaner. Confirm with handler.

North Eleuthera (MYEH) — North Eleuthera handler

Small field, customs in the main terminal. Common first stop for Harbour Island traffic. Hours: 09:00 to 17:00.

Staniel Cay (MYES) — Not a POE

Staniel Cay cannot clear you from outside the Bahamas. First land at Nassau or Exuma, clear, then hop to Staniel.

Andros (MYAN / San Andros)

Port of Entry on request. Light private traffic; customs called out as needed. Overtime is the norm outside 09:00 to 17:00.

Long Island (MYLS) — Stella Maris

POE on request, customs by advance arrangement. Plan 24 hours ahead.

Inagua (MYIG)

Remote POE useful for transiting to / from Caribbean destinations. Light traffic; customs called out.

Turks and Caicos FBOs

Providenciales (MBPV) — Provo Air Center

PAC is the dominant private FBO at PLS with a purpose-built private terminal, customs and immigration on-site, and the most experienced private handling team in TCI. Hours: 06:00 to 24:00. Overtime available.

Grand Turk (MBGT)

Limited private handling; customs in main terminal. Day trip traffic typical.

South Florida FBOs

Fort Lauderdale Executive (KFXE)

KFXE has multiple FBOs — Banyan Air Service is the anchor and handles the bulk of international private arrivals with dedicated CBP coordination. Sheltair KFXE is the other major. Both have purpose-built customs rooms and cycle with the on-airport CBP officer. KFXE is a User Fee airport.

Miami Opa Locka Executive (KOPF)

Signature Aviation KOPF and Fontainebleau Aviation are the main FBOs, both set up for international clearance. KOPF is a User Fee airport.

Palm Beach International (KPBI)

Signature Aviation KPBI and Atlantic Aviation KPBI handle international private traffic. KPBI is a federal AOE so no User Fee per arrival.

Fort Lauderdale International (KFLL)

Sheltair KFLL and National Jets are the primary private handlers. KFLL is a federal AOE; CBP processes commercial and private together with extended hours.

Miami International (KMIA)

Signature Aviation KMIA and Avfuel partners handle international private. KMIA is 24 hour CBP coverage but the ramp environment is busier and more expensive than KOPF or KFXE.

Stuart / Witham (KSUA)

Atlantic Aviation KSUA is the main FBO. KSUA is a User Fee AOE and a participant in the CBP Remote Video Inspection program, useful for certain qualifying arrivals outside normal hours.

Naples (KAPF)

Naples Jet Center is the main FBO. User Fee AOE, Remote Video Inspection qualifier.

Boca Raton (KBCT)

Atlantic Aviation KBCT handles private international. User Fee AOE.

On-Field vs Off-Field Clearance

  • On-field — the customs officer is resident at the airport and comes to the FBO or has a dedicated room. This is the case at KFLL, KMIA, KOPF, KFXE, KPBI, MBPV, MYNN, MYGF.
  • On-call — the officer is called out from a regional office for the arrival. Common at smaller POEs like MYIG, MYLS, MYCB. Adds 30 to 60 minutes of wait.
  • Remote video — CBP Remote Video Inspection uses a tablet based video call with a CBP officer at a central site. Available at KSUA, KAPF, and a growing list of smaller AOEs. See dedicated page.

How the FBO Coordinates Customs

A competent FBO will:

  • File or relay the GenDec
  • Notify customs of ETA
  • File or submit eAPIS on operator behalf
  • Pre-position customs forms (C7A, TCI declaration) on the aircraft or in the lounge
  • Meet the aircraft and manage passenger flow
  • Process fees on one invoice

Typical FBO Invoice Line Items

Line ItemTypical Range
Handling fee$250 to $1,500
Overnight parking$25 to $250 / night
Ramp feeWaived with fuel at most FBOs
GPU / air start$50 to $200
Lav service$50 to $150
CBP overtime$150 to $300 / hour
Customs overtime (Bahamas / TCI)$75 to $150

Which FBO to Choose

For most clients the FBO is chosen by the operator on dispatch considerations (fuel price, parking availability, relationships). Vanbert’s ops team selects the right FBO for each trip considering your schedule, passenger expectations, and arrival hour. If you have a specific FBO preference, tell us; we will accommodate where possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I skip the FBO and clear customs directly?
No. Private arrivals are processed through the FBO which coordinates with the on-field customs authority. Even when the officer comes to the aircraft, the FBO handles the logistics.
Does the FBO stamp my passport?
No. Only Immigration officers stamp passports. The FBO coordinates and hosts the process, but the stamp comes from the officer.
Which is cheaper: KFXE or KFLL for international arrivals?
KFLL typically has a lower total cost because there is no per-arrival CBP User Fee. KFXE adds a User Fee but is often faster, quieter, and more convenient. Net cost is client dependent.
Can Vanbert pick the FBO for me?
Yes. Our ops team selects the FBO on every trip based on hours, price, and client preference. Tell us if you have a favorite.
What if I land after FBO hours?
Most South Florida FBOs staff 24 hours during peak season and have callout for off hours. Bahamas and TCI smaller FBOs require pre-coordinated overtime. Always confirm 24 hours ahead for off-hour arrivals.
