Turks and Caicos is a British Overseas Territory sitting roughly 575 miles southeast of Miami. Despite being grouped with the Bahamas in most travel minds, TCI is a completely separate customs and immigration jurisdiction with its own forms, fees, and procedures. A private jet arriving from Florida into Providenciales (MBPV) is a full international clearance, not a domestic continuation of a Bahamas trip.

The overwhelming majority of private arrivals land at Providenciales (MBPV, commonly abbreviated PLS). The private terminal is operated by Provo Air Center, which is also the de facto FBO handling customs coordination for private flights.

Pre-Arrival Filings

GA Declaration

Turks and Caicos requires a General Aviation Declaration filed before arrival. Your operator or handler emails it to the TCI Airports Authority and Customs. The required lead time is 24 hours for planning purposes, but TCI stations are flexible for short notice when the handler has a relationship.

No eTicket (yet)

Unlike the Bahamas, TCI has no equivalent online pre-arrival passenger registration as of this writing. Passengers simply present passport, immigration card, and customs declaration on arrival. This may change — check with your handler before travel.

Immigration Card

A physical TCI Immigration Card is filled out on arrival (occasionally distributed during descent). Captures name, passport, flight, accommodation, purpose.

Customs Declaration

TCI Customs uses a short declaration form on arrival covering currency (over $10,000 USD), agricultural items, firearms, and commercial goods. Very similar to the Bahamas C7A in spirit.

Who Needs a Visa

US, Canadian, UK, EU, and most Caribbean nationals do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. TCI immigration grants the stamp on arrival. Check the TCI Immigration Department site for other passports.

Firearms in TCI

Turks and Caicos has extremely strict firearms law. Bringing a personal firearm — including a single round of ammunition — without pre-arranged written authorization from the Commissioner of Police is a criminal offense that has resulted in arrests and prison sentences for visiting US citizens. There is no tourist hunting exemption. Assume the answer is no, and leave firearms and ammunition home. See our firearms page for the broader context.

Pets into TCI

The TCI Department of Agriculture issues pet import permits. The process is similar to the Bahamas: veterinary health certificate within the prior 10 days, current rabies vaccine (1 month to 1 year old), and a permit application filed in advance. Lead time is typically 5 to 10 business days. Dogs and cats only; TCI does not accept all exotic species. Details on the pet import page.

Currency and Declarations

The US dollar is the official currency of Turks and Caicos. No conversion needed. Declare cash and negotiable instruments totaling $10,000 USD or more per person.

Clearance Timeline at PLS

  1. Arrival and taxi to Provo Air Center

The private terminal is on the north side of the field. Handler meets at the ramp.

Passengers enter the Provo Air Center private clearance area.

  3. Immigration card check

Officer reviews passport and card. Stamps in.

  4. Customs declaration and baggage

  5. Release to ground transport

Total elapsed time: 15 to 30 minutes typical.

Flying to Private Islands

Parrot Cay, Pine Cay, and several other private islands have small strips served from PLS or from North Caicos. None are Ports of Entry. Your international first landing is PLS, then a short domestic hop. Most resorts coordinate that domestic leg on Caravans or twin turboprops.

Return to the US

From TCI, the return to the US requires eAPIS filing just as from the Bahamas. Flight time to KFLL is roughly 2 hours 20 minutes in a midsize. See the US APIS page for the filing, and US CBP page for arrival procedure.
