The C7A — officially the Bahamas Inward Passenger Declaration — is the single piece of paper every arriving passenger signs before being released from customs. It is short: one page, about fifteen fields. But errors on it are a leading cause of minor holds, and a false declaration is a criminal offense under Bahamian customs law. This page walks it from top to bottom.

Who Signs One

Every arriving passenger aged 16 and over signs their own C7A. Families with minor children file one adult form that covers the children, but each adult signs separately. Crew also file a form though the fields are mostly N/A for operational crew items.

The Fields, One by One

1. Full Name (Surname, Given Name)

Must exactly match the machine readable zone on the passport. Single character differences get flagged at the desk.

2. Date of Birth

DD / MM / YYYY format (British convention, not American). Getting the day and month reversed is the most common error Americans make on this form.

3. Nationality and Passport Number

As on the passport biographic page. Dual nationals use the passport they are actually traveling on.

4. Flight Number / Aircraft Registration

On a private flight there is no flight number. Enter the aircraft tail number (e.g. N123AB) and the operator name. "PVT" or "Private" is acceptable.

5. Port of Embarkation

The airport you departed from. ICAO or plain English both work (KFLL or "Fort Lauderdale"). If you tech stopped for fuel en route, list the origin where passengers boarded.

6. Address in the Bahamas

The hotel, resort, or private residence where you will be staying. Must be specific: "Baha Mar, Nassau" works; "Bahamas" does not. Yacht stays enter the vessel name and marina.

7. Length of Stay

Number of nights in the Bahamas. Day trips enter "Same day" or "0 nights".

8. Purpose of Visit

Tourism, business, or transit. Tourism is the default for charter clients.

9. Declaration of Currency

You must declare cash, travelers checks, and negotiable instruments totaling $10,000 USD or more per person (or equivalent in any currency). Do not lie on this one. Bahamas Customs actively asks, and undeclared cash is confiscated.

10. Declaration of Firearms / Ammunition

Any firearm requires a pre-issued Bahamas Firearm Import Permit. Declare it here and present the permit. See firearm permits. Do not assume your US concealed carry permit carries any weight in the Bahamas — it does not.

11. Declaration of Agricultural Goods / Plants / Meats / Dairy

Fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, and plants of any kind must be declared. Most are prohibited or restricted. Common snag: airline leftovers or sandwiches from the hotel.

12. Declaration of Commercial Merchandise

Goods for sale, samples, or items being imported for business. Personal effects and gifts do not count here.

13. Duty Free Allowance

Visitors 18+ may bring in duty free: 200 cigarettes OR 50 cigars OR 1 lb of tobacco, and 1 quart of spirits or wine. Exceeding is declarable.

14. Controlled Drugs / Narcotics

Prescription medications in original containers for personal use are fine. Declare any narcotic or psychotropic prescription (Schedule II equivalents). Recreational drugs including marijuana are illegal in the Bahamas regardless of legal status at origin.

15. Signature and Date

Ink signature, in person, on arrival. Do not pre-sign before landing — customs officers have called this out.

What Happens at the Desk

On a typical private arrival, the officer reviews each passenger’s passport, verifies the C7A matches, and either stamps it or marks it for inspection. An orange / red card inspection means your bags open. A green card means you walk out. Roughly 1 in 15 private arrivals are flagged for a physical bag look, usually a quick spot check.

Spirits / wine1 quartPer adult 18+

Overages are not illegal — they are simply dutiable. You declare, the officer assesses duty (typically 10 to 45%), and you pay at the desk.

Common Errors

  • American date format — MM/DD/YYYY instead of DD/MM/YYYY. Switch your brain to British before you write.
  • Vague address — "Nassau" instead of the actual hotel. Officers push back.
  • Missed currency declaration — the $10,000 threshold is per person, and it includes travelers checks, bearer bonds, and cashier checks.
  • Undeclared meats or cheeses — the charcuterie from the FBO is agricultural.
  • Crew filing a passenger form — crew have a dedicated section. Fill that, not the pax side.

Penalties for False Declaration

Section 207 of the Bahamas Customs Management Act makes false declarations an offense carrying fines up to three times the value of undeclared goods, plus forfeiture. Officers can and do prosecute. The risk reward on lying about a bottle of rum is terrible — just declare it.

Getting the C7A Ahead of Time

The form is generally handed out on the aircraft during descent. Vanbert puts a stack in every trip kit along with black pens. If you want to review in advance, a downloadable PDF is linked at the top of this page. Completing it in flight saves 5 to 10 minutes at the desk on busy days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I fill the C7A digitally?
No, as of 2026 it is a paper form signed on arrival. The digital companion is the eTicket, which is separate.
Does a 10 year old sign their own C7A?
No. Passengers under 16 are covered on an accompanying adult’s form. The adult signs once on behalf of the minors.
What if I forget to declare something and realize on the ramp?
Flag it to the officer before they ask. Voluntary disclosure is treated vastly more leniently than discovery during inspection.
Is my US concealed carry recognized?
No. The Bahamas does not recognize any foreign carry permit. Firearms require a pre-issued Bahamas Import Permit or they are confiscated and you may be arrested.
Can Vanbert pre-fill the C7A for my passengers?
We provide the forms and a QuickFill guide in the trip kit. The signature must be in person on arrival, so we cannot sign for you, but every other field we can draft.
